Adventures from your dock
Sierpe is the river gateway to the Osa Peninsula, one of the wildest corners of Costa Rica.
Things to do near Sierpe and the Osa Peninsula
Térraba-Sierpe mangroves
The Térraba-Sierpe National Wetlands surround the river with the largest mangrove forest in Costa Rica. Boat tours wind through the channels looking for crocodiles, caimans, herons, kingfishers and monkeys.
Caño Island snorkeling and diving
Caño Island Biological Reserve sits off the Osa coast and is known for clear water, reef fish, turtles and rays. Boats run from the Sierpe area out through the river mouth.
Corcovado National Park
Corcovado protects some of the most intact lowland rainforest on the Pacific coast of the Americas, home to tapirs, all four of Costa Rica’s monkey species and scarlet macaws. Guided day trips leave from the Sierpe and Drake Bay side.
Diquís stone spheres
The pre-Columbian stone spheres of the Diquís, a UNESCO World Heritage site, can be seen at Finca 6 near Palmar, a short drive from Sierpe.
Beaches and whales
Pacific beaches are reachable by boat or car, and the Uvita and Marino Ballena area to the north is known for seasonal humpback whale watching.
At the retreat
Some of the best wildlife watching needs no tour at all. Hike the trails, sit on the viewing deck at dawn, or take the boat onto the river.
